In 1956 Mr. Claude Despatie transformed his garage into a shop specialising in the installation and repair of mufflers; the first in Quebec. Since that time, millions of people have looked to him to maintain their cars.
The company was very successful and quickly expanded. In 1959 two other garages were opened. That same year an agreement was signed with G. Lebeau Ltd., a company which specialises in the cosmetic care of cars, which led to the opening of a twinned garage offering integrated services.
The Monsieur Muffler name came about in 1963 and it was at that time that growth really took off. New garages opened and the line of products and services offered, grew steadily. In 1964, Monsieur Muffler became the first Quebec company to offer its now famous lifetime guarantee on its mufflers, which it extended in 1967 to include shock absorbers.
1976 was an important turning point in the company's history when a first franchise was given for a garage in Saint-Hyacinthe. Franchising then became the cornerstone of Monsieur Muffler's expansion policy with the opening of franchises in all major centers throughout Quebec.
Over the years, Monsieur Muffler continued to diversify, and other than the maintenance of mufflers and shock absorbers, today offers customers a complete line of products and services: oil changes, wheel alignments, antifreeze recycling, suspensions, the sale of tires, radiators, batteries, brake drums and discs, air conditioners and trailer hitches.
With its recognition level at 94% and a level of satisfaction at 97% as determined in a recent poll, Monsieur Muffler is a great Quebec success story.
